National Occupational Standards for Paralegals

Skills for Justice are sponsoring NOS for Paralegals and there are three 'steering group' meetings taking place on the 12th and 13th December.

Occupational Standards are good for the profession as a whole because it is the first step towards recognising the role that paralegals play within the profession and will lay the path open to create Paralegal Apprenticeships.

However, NALP has concerns surrounding the lack of consultation prior to these meetings taking place.

Consultation is vital since the implementation of NOS could affect a wide variety of stakeholders, such as paralegal training companies, sole paralegal practitioners, paralegals currently working within the legal firms or legal departments of companies or local authorities.

As a consequence of this lack of consultation, NALP has produced a consultation document that, so far, has produced no response from Skills For Justice. NALP is very grateful to its members who have responded swiftly to the survey attached to the document. You can download the PDF containing the results.
