What we offer
NALP offers membership to a rapidly expanding profession within the legal sector. NALP, as an organisation, has a sound governance structure and actively lobbies, on behalf of its increasing membership, to develop the status and perception of Paralegals within it.
We urge any person who performs legal work, within any organisation or company, to join NALP as a member. We have a membership status for all levels.
Paralegals exist at many levels within an organisation. There are junior paralegals and very senior paralegals performing many different functions. However, at whatever level they are, they have one thing in common, and that is the necessity for a thorough grounding in the English Legal System, the main areas of substantive law and also legal procedure.
Even though paralegals may tend to specialise, the philosophy of NALP is that to succeed as a specialist, a paralegal must start as a generalist. No specialist area exists in a vacuum or in isolation.
All specialised areas of law and practice will also need an understanding of how the legal system works as a whole, and of the most common areas of substantive law. This is why NALP insists on a broad syllabus for the qualification in law and procedure. The successful paralegal will use this knowledge every day in their future specialised career.
Today there is a continuing need for the development of career paralegals.

The Higher Diploma in Paralegal Practice is a joint scheme which NALP offers in partnership with Universities. NALP Specialist Research Awards
The NALP Research Awards offer specialist studies for the qualified paralegal and law graduates working in Legal Practice, Commerce, Industry or a Public Sector, providing the opportunity to attain in-depth knowledge in their chosen specialism.Three work-based reserch assignments of 5,000 words each are required. Please note that only a text book is provided - there is no course material and the applicant needs access to a law library in order to undergo their research.
