Level 3 Certificate for Paralegal Technicians

If you are looking to become a paralegal or to strengthen your knowledge, our new Level 3 Certificate is perfect for you.

This new qualification replaces the three different Level 3 qualifications (Certificate, Award & Diploma) and is designed to meet the needs of learners starting out on their legal career. It will provide them with an excellent foundation of legal knowledge, covering the topics that are most needed as they embark on their chosen profession. The new qualification even maps across to the Level 3 Paralegal Apprenticeship, covering many of the topics required by the new Standard. 

NALP has designed this qualification following consultation with FE colleges and private legal training providers as well as students , to ensure that it meets the needs of today’s learners.

By completing this qualification, you will gain a recognised and respected qualification that will aid you in entering and progressing your career as a Paralegal.

Perfect for those who have always dreamt of a law career, as well as those currently working in business administration, secretarial services or within the legal environment and would like to develop additional skills to further their career.

Many school and 6th form leavers enrol on this course as an alternative to university.

What you’ll study

This Level 3 qualification consists of four mandatory units,

Introduction to Law for Paralegals

In this unit, you’ll gain a detailed knowledge of the legal system in England and Wales.

Introduction to Law of Contract for Paralegals

You will be given a clear understanding of the law of contract in England and Wales.

Introduction to Professional Conduct for Paralegals

This unit will give you a clear knowledge of the responsibilities of paralegals in a professional setting including their ethical and codes of conduct duties.

Introduction to Litigation and Dispute Resolution for Paralegals

This unit will give you an understanding of the civil and criminal litigation process.

How this course is studied

Distance learning, classroom attendance or blended learning – check with your chosen centre.

NALP provides full course workbooks covering every aspect of the subjects you will be assessed on. Copies of these will be provided to you by your Training Centre. NALP also provides Learner Guides that contain lots of information, plus hints and tips on how to complete each unit. All Training Centres have fully trained and experienced staff who will provide you with any support that you may need. 

How long will it take me to complete?

You will have a maximum of two years to complete the Level 3 Certificate for Paralegal Technicians, though most learners tend to complete within one year.

How will this qualification be assessed?

This qualification is now assessed through a mix of multiple-choice question papers and written assignments.

Multiple choice

The multiple choice papers are taken via a secure proctoring service, at pre-arranged dates and times. Depending on the unit being assessed you will have either 45 or 60 minutes to complete the paper.

Assignments

Assignments are allocated to you and you have two weeks to complete and submit your response. Units 2,3 & 4 have one assignment each, with a response limit of 2,000 words.
